Considering retirement at the end of the 2017-2018 school year? Watch your school email for info about the longevity step from Human Resources.  It would help your income in your final year of teaching and during retirement.

In order to qualify:

  • File with Human Resources agreeing to retire at the end of the 17-18 school year by the deadline.
  • Either (1) Have 30 or more years of service, with 10 consecutive years in Blount County Schools  OR (2) Be 60 or more years of age with 10 consecutive years in Blount County Schools.

Please be aware that if you do file the paperwork with HR, you are firmly agreeing to retire at the end of the 2017-2018 school year in order to take advantage of  the longevity step.

Notice about how and when to inform HR about your intent to retire at the end of the 17-18 should be emailed to you soon on your school system email.

The longevity step is a part of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Board of Education Collaborative Conferencing team and the Blount County Education Association Collaborative Conferencing team. Under this MOU, the longevity step will be available through the 2018-2019 school year. If you have questions about this MOU or the Collaborative Conferencing process, please contact your building level Association Representatives or email president.bcea@gmail.com.
