Teacher Leadership Opportunity

Leadership is not a responsibility we leave to others; leadership is inherent in the professional work of teachers.

The Tennessee Education Association, is proud to offer the Teacher Leadership Institute (TLI) Fellowship. Leadership takes a variety of forms for teachers today, and the Teacher Leadership Institute will support teacher leaders in becoming more expert and confident at leading in the current education environment. The Institute offers a blended learning path addressing instructional leadership, policy leadership and association leadership. The TLI is a comprehensive effort to prepare, activate, recruit and support teachers in order to shape and lead a transformed teaching profession. This cohort-based learning experience will consist of:

• Rigorous competency-based curriculum;
• Applied experience through a self-selected capstone project;
• Deep local and national community collaboration;
• Extensive coaching and support;
• Evidence-based portfolio documenting growth in the Teacher Leadership Competencies; and
• Professional development points.

Beginning this October, TEA’s 2018 – 2019 Teacher Leadership Institute Fellowship will launch. Teachers will work in cohorts of approximately 30-35 colleagues. They will engage face-to-face and online in a customized curriculum exploring leadership in all of its facets. Virtual learning focused on the overarching Teacher Leadership Competencies will begin in October, followed by the Pathway specific competencies during the following semester. Social justice, through the Foundational Competencies is infused throughout the pathway competencies. The Fellowship will culminate in capstone projects designed by the TLI Fellows to address existing, relevant policy challenges in their districts and communities. Fellows will be guided by other accomplished teacher leaders from their state and across the country, as well as by content experts with a range of experience.

At the completion of the year, Fellows will have gained new, unparalleled leadership expertise and experience. TLI Fellows will be uniquely prepared for leadership roles in their profession, policy-making arenas, and in their association.
