Why join BCEA?

The answer is as easy as A-B-C!

BENEFITS

What do I get for my dues money besides advocacy?  Here are just a few member benefits:

Professional Development. Access to high-quality professional development locally and through TEA:

  • Local PD plans for this year include sessions on the new evaluations, legal issues in the classroom, and Facebook privacy.   Is there something else you’d like to see?  Let us know!
  • Let’s Talk: You, Your Job and Your Association is a series of regional forums offered by TEA this fall to share information on critical employment issues, offer resources to help you stay up-to-date, and solicit input from members.  There’s one in Knoxville on August 25th.
  • TEA’s I Can Do It! workshop on classroom management for newer teachers is awesome, and is usually offered several times each year in Nashville. BCEA has historically sponsored attendance for several members each year.
  • The Spring Symposium held in Gatlinburg each spring offers a variety of professional development sessions, sure to energize you with new ideas at a point of the year when you most need it.

Local contacts.   You have a colleague in your building that can help you with daily concerns, your local elected leadership, and your UniServ Coordinator provides you support for employment-related matters, training for your local leaders and helps keep you informed.

Information and publications to help you improve your teaching, stay up-to-date on achievement, best practices, education funding and more!

Access to member-only discounts.   Using your membership number at the TEA Access card website, you can get discounts on things you use every day.   Don’t know your number? Contact your AR or Uni-serv. Here’s some recent, LOCAL examples:

  • $7 off an oil change at Jiffy Lube or $5 off at Valvoline.
  • Up to %30 off movie tickets at Foothills Cinema
  • Up to 50% off at Office Depot online.
  • Free pizza at Papa John’s with a purchase of a pizza.
  • 30% of eye exams and glasses at Target Optical
  • Don’t forget to also check the programs at http://www.neamb.com/ for additional discount offers and financial and insurance products.  Local members have saved the cost of their dues with the auto and home insurance offers alone!

Don’t forget legal representation and a professional liability policy. There’s many more benefits to membership–watch this space, explore the TEA & NEA websites, and ask your AR about the Benefits of being a member.

Don’t miss out on Advocacy, posted previously.  Watch for Collective Action, coming soon.  Why join BCEA?  It’s as simple as A, B, C!
