Licensure renewal dates extended
From TNDOE:
If an educator has submitted an application to renew or advance a teacher, occupational teacher, or school service personnel license that expired on Aug. 31, 2016, TDOE will honor those applications. Even if the application has not been fully processed, the license will remain active. The deadline for renewing or advancing a teacher, occupational teacher, or school service personnel license expiring on Aug. 31, 2016 has been extended until Dec. 1, 2016.
Once the application has been processed, the license will be renewed or advanced if the educator meets the requirements. If there is a deficiency on an application, TDOE will provide the educator an opportunity to correct the deficiency. If the deficiency can’t be corrected, the license will become inactive.
Using Evaluation Scores for PDPs
TDOE will allow an educator to use overall evaluation ratings from 2015-16 toward accrual of professional development points (PDPs) required for advancement or renewal of an active teaching license. This option only applies to accruing PDPs based on evaluation; all other PDP activities must have been completed prior to Sept. 1, 2016, for licenses that expired on Aug. 31, 2016. Educators using this option must also ensure their application is received by TDOE on or before Dec. 1, 2016. In the future, educators should not anticipate relying on PDPs earned from evaluation during the finalyear that their license is valid.
Reminder
As a reminder, as of Aug. 1, all licensure renewal and advancement transactions must occur through TNCompass. TDOE no longer accepts paper applications for renewals or advancements of Tennessee licenses.
